using easy books in the teaching of foreign languages to a 6 year old

My child is 6 since august this year. I finally decided to introduce books in his teaching foreign languages.
We kept the game of days / languages . MEaning - every day is almost another language.
Or in fact there are 2 days for French, 2 for English, one for Spanish and One for Russian.

This year, since I am mostly home, on leave, pregnant, I keep him some days at home. He omits the kindergarten but that is not so bad for him. He appreciates the time with mummy especially after so many years when mummy was working the whole day. And especially that soo there will be another child at home. And the my older son surely will be a little jelous.

Anyway, we keep on speaking a lot .. using techniques like -- ask for in the language to get it
see the dialogue
- Would u like a tangerine?  - I show the fruit to him
- Tak
- "Can I have a tangerine please"?  - i give the sentence to repeat , he is used to it, he knows already what to do , and repeat
then he gets the tangerine

and so for.. We also use the sentence... Polish please.. when I speak the foreign language and he doesnt get me inspite of trials... and gestures.. then when he says it -- I say in Polish what I said before in the foreign l.

But getting back to books

I do not push for it too much.. It is like one easy ex.. , one listening per lesson, mostly it is still the play time,
but he can write and read so the exercises are fun

I consider good books and I advise u :

for French
Alex and Zoe

for English Bugs 1

for Spanish
Pandilla

for Russian
Stupieni 1

there are links when u go over the titles with ur mouse

all the best in ur teaching ! :)

a five year old is reading - a scary thing or a happy thing ?

a five year old kid can start reading quite naturally.
even younger can. the problem is -- how to maintain that and not to spoil before he goes to school and WHEN HE GOES TO SCHOOL
what should i say when kids will be learning to read at school == take the book and read it under the class table???

because.. i am not sure i can count on the teacher to give him harder tasks then others get ...

Scooby's effect - efekt Scoobiego :)

i to naprawdę długie słowa
i przyswaja wiedzę z dziedziny historii, geografii, ogólnej wiedzy o świecie,
komputerów, informatyki, archeologii, biologii, historii sztuki itd itp
naprawdę.
przynajmniej moje dziecko tak.

a potem są takie fajne kwiatki:

1 miesiac temu

Mikołaj po piętnastu minutach wytężonej pracy pisarsko-artystycznej przy kopiowaniu okładki płyty DVD Scooby Doo
- mamo przeczytaj mi co tutaj napisałem!
- :)) Napisałeś - Niesforna sfora - kochanie

2. a teraz - po prostu czyta sobie wszystko sam
(pomagam przy czterosylabowcach i przy dwuznakach)

...................

quite recently my child would be coming to me and asking (after 15 minutes of hard work at copying the DVD cover

- Mum, read what I just wrote here
- :) You wrote Scooby Doo Abracadabra Doo

and now he just reads, i just help with 4 syllabes words, or more difficult sounds made up from 2 letters

that is what i call the Scooby Doo efect

another one is that he learnes English and other languages quick
he just sings Scooby songs and watches DVDs in different languages

well, there is also the 5 days languages game but still, Scooby Doo is the best motivator

Teaching children singing their favourite songs in English

This is how I teach myself and my child songs in English taken from Scooby Doo movies.
He refuses to sing anything else - that s that period... So I do what he likes and he learns a lot of new English words

A great efficient language learning home game

It is Thursday, Spanish Day

I will tell u why it is important.

I ve got so many English books, I m the Spider Man!

A long time ago :) 2 or 3 years, I invented a home learning game
I wanted my child to get notions (not really speak) , but get notions and get his speaking aparate in his mouth and his hearing to get used to foreign sounds.
So here is the game:

Monday - an English day
Tuesday - a French day
Wednesday - a Polish day (native)
Thursday - a Spanish day
Friday - A Russian day
Saturday - a German day
Sunday - a Norwegian day

u can use any languages familiar to u , or those u want to learn urself

the thing is to:

- try to speak the language, as much as u can, but not too much, all day or some hours, mix with the native of course!
- listen to the foreign songs
- listen to CD, stories, songs for children
- use foreign language games or use normal but speak the languages while playing
- do the language theatre
- buy foreign language heroes toys such as Scooby Babar Poco Yo etc
- use costumes of those heroes
- get the child intrested in those heroes
- watch youtube, films in the foreign language, cheap!
- play games in the foreign language
- do the half an hour lesson of this language, Helen Doron or other style.. communication, on the floor... see my other films
- invent ur own ways of using the language
- put stickers all over
- make foreign language games

STICK TO THE SCHEDULE
sometimes the child may not cooperate, has worse day and u too
drop it for some time, then come back again
i ve been doing is for over 5 years.. it works.. he doesnt actually speak fluently but he recognizes the languages and knows words
if u want the child to speak the language , focus on one only
and put him to foreign language school or get him the foreign nanny
or speak the language at home ALL THE TIME
i didnt want it

and i think my way is better :))

let s see in a few years
